 ternational human rights. This is an emerging consensus on the internation
 al level. But how does this operate in practice? What does it mean that a 
 private company is bound by human rights? And what do we mean by human rig
 hts in the field of business and who\, finally\, shall enforce the respect
 ive obligations? The seminar will address these issues from a practitioner
 ’s perspective. The focus will be on what companies can do in order to ens
 ure compliance with human rights obligations and reduce liability risks as
  a component of a sustainable company policy.\n\nBiography \n\nKilian Bälz
  is a partner at Amereller and is based in Berlin and Dubai. Amereller is 
 an international law firm focusing on the MENA Region. With offices in Cai
 ro\, Tripoli\, Baghdad\, Erbil\, and Dubai\, Amereller advises internation
 al companies\, financial institutions\, development organizations\, and NG
 Os on all aspects of doing business in the MENA Region. Kilian has extensi
 ve experience in working in Libya\, Iraq and Yemen and regularly advises o
 n human rights issues in connection with investments in fragile states. Fo
 r many years\, he was involved in negotiating employment standards in his 
 capacity as chair of the National Employment Pact\, an NGO promoting fair
