The CIBC Office of Sustainable Finance recently completed the first ever Transformative Business Law Summer Academy.

The CIBC Office of Sustainable Finance (OSF) under ’s Sustainable Growth Initiative is an interdepartmental initiative between Desautels Faculty of Management and ’s Faculty of Law, specifically the Faculty’s inaugural ‘Business Law Platform.’ Since 2022, the Office has been led by Professor Peer Zumbansen, an internationally renowned scholar and award-winning teacher in corporate law, comparative private law, transnational regulatory governance and climate change governance.

The OSF has been instrumental in fostering a number of joint innovations, including the launch of ’s first-ever research paper series with the Social Sciences Research Network, the , the Business & Society Speaker and Workshop series, the ESG Spring and Fall conferences, and the Business Law Meter blog.

In 2023, the OSF and the Business Law Platform inaugurated the Transformative Business Law Summer Academy, an international, week-long, intensive policy research and writing institute. The 2023 Academy published the internationally recognized , setting the precedent for the second rendition of the Academy from 4-9 May, 2025.

On May 2-3, 2025, scholars and experts from Canada, the U.S., Europe and Latin America will convene for the inaugural conference of the pan-Canadian and transnational network on Sustainable Law+Business, CTN-SLB. The CTN-SLB is a scholarly collaboration for critical research, pedagogy and collaboration which features an annual international conference, rotating across participating Network institutions and an annual ‘Junior Faculty Forum’ to support emerging scholars in sustainable finance, governance and business law. Registration for the CTN-SLB Conference is open until Wednesday 30 April, 2025, following this .

On May 10, 2025, the OSF and ’s Business Law Platform, together with the International Law Association’s Canadian Chapter (ILAC), hosts an international conference, “Advancing Corporate Sustainability: Enforcement and Remedies in Business and Human Rights.” The conference is taking place all day at ’s Faculty of Law and registration is required by Tuesday May 6th, at this .
